Thomas passed away peacefully on May 29, in Vacaville. He was born in National City, CA. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Tom served in the Army during the Japanese occupation from 1947-1950 and served in Korea during 1950. He was Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Millbrae from 1955 to 1986 and retired after 31 years. He was a member of the Kiwana’s Club in the early 1980’s.


His family moved to Vacaville in 1986. During this time he published two western stories, “Derringer” and “Lady Behind the Badge”. Additionally, Tom spent over 25 years as a collector of Carnival Glass and wrote several price guides and books on the subject. Tom is survived by his daughter, Darlene Frankel (Owner and founder of Bounty Books); son, Fred Sprain; son, Sam Sprain (Diana); grandsons, John, Andy and Sean; and great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Jayce, Kiora, Leo, Liliana, and many friends.

He was married to Mabel (the love of his life) for over 60 years and he now joins her at Skyview Memorial Lawn Rose Garden in Vallejo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the California Department of Veterans Affairs,
